And the most interesting thing to me is that people are surprised by it. Truly, that I don't think god is real and that we really are here for no reason, they can't seem to wrap their heads around it.

Growing up in Australia, I was actually surprised to learn that other people had to come out as atheist at all. I went for years and years without ever having so much as a hint of a religious conversation, with only the vaguest idea that people entertained different religions because I had a muslim friend in elementary school. And I never once thought that people actually believed any of this stuff; until I got a good look at America it was all just a bunch of traditions as harmless as christmas.

Of course, now my wider world includes the few dumbass religiously motivated politicians and such here, and... well, it's on, now.
