Taking the bible as literature, starting in Genesis the devil (assuming the serpent is the devil in disguise, which is debatable because God curses the snake and takes away its legs, but for some reason sees fit to make some of them deadly poisonous) tells Eve that she won't die if she eats the fruit, whereas God told Adam & Eve that they would die "on the day." So Christian apologists had to come up with the explanation that either it was talking about spiritual death, or else there was no death on earth before A&E ate the fruit (which Adam still lived for some 900 years more after that).
Christian apologetics is the art of rolling a dog turd in sugar and selling it as a donut.
