He's an atheist. You can imagine the reaction of many of these children when they googled the verses and found them only to be word for word from the King James Bible.

Actually, in The Exorcist Regan and her mom were not really religious, as her mother asked one of the housekeepers why they placed a crucifix in Regan's bed. You know, the same one she was using later in that famous scene where the devil says, "Let Jesus fuck you!"
