It's a humanist concept co-opted by religion.
Theories don't have 'dark sides'. They're not people. People have dark sides. And all you need to get to eugenics is a rudimentary grasp of animial husbandry, no theory of evolution required. It's the theory of evolution that illustrates some of the pitfalls of eugenics, such as reducing the diversity of your gene pool.
