Of course, scientists are moral agents and they have to take responsibility for their thalidomide, asbestos, Chernobyl meltdowns, cane toad environmental stuff ups, weapons of mass destruction...

And I think I read somewhere that most scientists are atheists.

Two possibilities, Lion: either you amend that so that the scientists personally responsible for those things need to take responsibility for them, or, if you're desperate to tar all atheists like this, then you'll also need to take responsibility for the terrible things perpetrated by christians- the child rapes, the genocides, the crusades, the inquisition, etc etc. What's good for the goose is good for the gander, right?
