Volunteering not only releases one from the immediacy of their own concerns, but it exposes them to the wide array of concerns that others have, while similarly observing commonalities to all. Being exposed to the intimate details of the lives of others (in the context of service work) can not only provide adequate perspective for better self-reflection, but it can also expose one to unconsidered solutions for one's own life issues. Where you provide assistance to others is where you often find yourself being assisted by others in kind.
Definitely agree with this.
