Quote:No, not a generalization at all. I DID know what every fight was about and since I was talking about myself, I'd say it's entirely fair.
Then you should have made it more clear that you were talking only about yourself. The phrase 'That's a sign of a weak person' indicates you were talking about people in general.
Quote:Furthermore, that example you offered is EXTREMELY rare and you and I both know that 99% of fights are avoidable and certainly have absolutely nothing to do with protecting someone's honor.
Firstly, I wouldn't use the phrase 'extremely rare', but I agree the situation isn't frightfully common. Be that as it may, it was simply an example meant to show that not every engagement in fisticuffs is a sign of weakness.
And even in the admittedly uncommon situation described, it isn't always about someone's honour - it is sometimes about someone's safety. And I notice you avoided answering my question.
Quote:To imply that there's a hero factor that has to be calculated in is absurd and utterly dishonest.
But it is obviously does occur, both in the defense of others and in the defense of one's self. There clearly are situations where not walking away is a sign of greater, not lesser, character.
This isn't to say that ALL fights are justified - some of my own clearly weren't. But your contention (implied, not overt) that responding with violence is ALWAYS a sign of weakness is '...absurd and utterly dishonest.'
