The fact is, the definition of marriage wasn't as it is now, even in recent memory: it wasn't that long ago that marriage was defined as between two people of the same race. It got changed then, and shockingly, we haven't had this cavalcade of pressures to change it again so that people can marry sheep, or toasters can marry drywall. It just hasn't happened. To treat this new push for gay marriage as the thing that's going to "unravel" the definition of marriage is to show either an ignorance of history, or a desperation to find some answer to this question that doesn't expose the bigotry at its beating heart.
