Good, though I really don't know where you got the impression that he was an atheist. I don't know him being an anti-racism activist, but he sure was not a secular leader. As all leaders of the eastern hordes, he was respectful of the Shamans, he followed and heeded their advice, and regularly gave sacrifices unto Tengri.

He wasn't racist, he even married a German girl (he himself was Asian). He was also probably into ancestor worship, but I don't think he believed in a god, or he might have been a pan-theist. Wikipedia says his religion is unknown, so I figured it couldn't have been that important if no one bothered to write it down.
