Tell me more about _______?

For this thread, share a fact, or three, that people don't already know about you.

1. I grew up in a household that kept Dachshunds for pets. I belong to a club which gets together once or twice a month to let the owners' dogs run around and play with each other in a dog training center. It's one of my favorite activities, even though I don't have a dog myself.

2. I belong to 20 or so social clubs / special interest groups, focused on atheism, humanism, skepticism, philosophy, foreign cuisine and cultures, and non-fiction books. Much of my time is spent in these groups, discussing books or ideas, often with an atheist, secular, or science theme.

3. My favorite animals are meerkats, manatees, and sloths.

4. My favorite books are Neurophilosophy by Patricia Churchland and The Tao Te Ching. In fiction, I gravitate toward SciFi and fantasy, though I read almost no fiction these days, and haven't read more than a few works of fiction since my twenties.

5. I'm 50 years old this year, and I am no longer afraid to say it. (Well, maybe just a little. *shiver*)
