I think you're thinking of ethane or methane, which are gasses at room temperature because they lack the strongly polar O-H bond, which results in strong (relatively) intermolecular forces between molecules of ethanol. As the forces are stronger, it takes more energy (heat) to remove these forces, and so the boiling point is higher. Yeah...
