The apostle Paul advised that Christians avoid spiritism. The Greek word he used for spiritism is pharmakia, from which we get our English word pharmacy. Basically it means drug use. Using drugs weakens you spiritually to being influenced by wicked spirits - demons.
Thus primitive people to this day will use drugs to gain access the spirit world.
Praying under the influence won't work.
