Some tough females do like shopping or whatever. We seem to have just gone way to the opposite end in an effort to make these strong women. Sometimes there's this strong independent woman with a total aversion to children, though sometimes you have a stay at home mother who's still obviously in charge around the house. Most of these sitcoms may have a woman that cooks and cleans, but if the men start getting out of line she will give them a stern look and they shut up and sit down. The Disney movie Brave is a recent example of this kind of woman that teaches her daughter womanly duties, but can quickly end a brawl in the throne room.
It just kind of depends on what the director or author thinks a strong woman should be. Whether it's a house wife with an iron will, or a business woman who is cut off from emotion and domestic duties.
