I think pit bulls are more inclined to be aggressive than other dog breeds due to the characteristics we bread into them. However, I think genes pale in comparison to the effect of the environment, how the dog is treated etc. If a pitbull is treated well, it is no more likely to be aggressive than any other dog. The only reason pitbulls are demonised is because they are used in dog fighting and they are actually capable of seriously hurting other people. There is no campaign to ban any of the little yappy dogs are there?
My family had a pitbull for about a decade. Gordon was his name. Oh, how we loved him. He was so loving to us and always protected the home by barking confidently, yet reasonably, when people passed by. He never harmed anybody and was well trained to follow certain rules. In fact, he helped us train other puppies. If the puppy tried to leave the house or go potty in the wrong area, Gordon would kindly pick the pup up with his mouth and place it where it should be. The pups loved him and slept under his belly. Never ever did he cause any problems.
A lovely anecdote, but general policy has to be set by the overall statistics. And the fact is that overall, pitbulls are notoriously dangerous animals.
OR something about vegetarianism. . .
