If Jesus was just a man, why all the stories?

It's also interesting to note that Jesus roamed a place that was basically the backwater hole of the world. He wasn't in Egypt, or Athens, or any of the more educated and civilized places. He was supposedly born in an unsanitary animal food trough in a place where many couldn't read or write. I doubt he could write himself, otherwise he would have written the new testament.
