Humanity is at a moral crossroads: do we use our intellect and understanding to overcome those evolved traits which cause in us a tendency to do harm to other animals, or to the environment? Or do we use our intellect to fully subject all the world to our instincts, maximizing human life without regard to our impact on the world?
I think we should use the intellect to identify and overcome the baser instincts which drive us. I see no nobility in embracing harm as necessary, when we've made so little effort to reduce or eliminate it.
