The squeaky wheel gets the grease and the relationships with all the drama get the attention. I mean, a hollywood couple are in a long-term, monogamous relationship and the tabloids completely ignore them, but the couples that break up and get back together and cheat on each other and lie and manipulate, those are the ones the papirazi are after.
