I felt the same way. The clincher for me came when I was 13-14 and was in church one day. The congregation was reciting the Apostles' Creed and (maybe for the first time) I really listened to what was being proclaimed. In a minute I realized that (a) I hardly believed a word of it and (b) I felt embarrassed for the adults around me who could say such silly things with straight faces.
