Paul was a highly complex man with multiple personalities. He was a religious fanatic and he created the Jesus character to give him an out for his many past crimes. He was able to insert the Jesus character into The Way cult and supplant The Way with his new doctrine. His disciples wrote the Gospels to explain the Jesus character's background and they incorporated some of the political events of the three main Jewish rebel leaders as events in Jesus' life.
Paul created the Christian religion based upon an imaginary character that he had created to excuse his past "sins." He adopted some religious rituals from other Asian religions and essentially renounced the traditional Jewish religion that was practiced at that time.
