However what atheists neglect is the spiritual realm. There is so much visible power in the relationship believers have with God. It cannot be explained through reason, but only through a personal relationship with Jesus. Study the word without skepticism, ask Jesus to guide you, meditate on Gods's goodness, and ask about spiritual experience from those who have experienced it themselves.
I have studied Christianity. I was a Christian all of my life, into adulthood. My reason for abandoning the faith, is largely due to the violent history of Christianty, and Genesis. The rest of the Bible is problematic too and riddled with nonsense, but Genesis is a direct affront to Darwin's theory of evolution. (which yes, is still 'just' a theory, but one that has incredible amounts of evidence stacked in its favor)
To ignore evidence so I can continue believing a lie, is more than illogical. It's disingenuous.
The fact that the Christian ''church'' (and its thousands of sects) has become wealthy off of preaching lies and hearsay, is tremendously reckless.
But, every single person has the right to choose to follow religion or not. I don't begrudge anyone that right. I just don't want to see any religion govern laws in society, or take away civil rights in favor of bigotry and sexism.
The Bible is a book of bigotry, and hatred, to be honest. When YOU view it with an open mind, you will see why I eventually abandoned it.
And then, you realize that all religions ...ALL OF THEM...are man's attempt to control society, and gain power. With the exception of Buddhism, they all seek to reign over others.
If God exists, he needs no one to speak for him/her/it. God doesn't need wars started on his behalf. God wouldn't kill societies, as is often preached in the Abrahamic faiths, and then tell his creation to not murder.
At the very least, religion is hearsay about a god, passed down throughout the ages. At the worst, it is a tool designed by mankind, to control societies. To gain power. To wage war. To generate wealth.
That sounds like a god created by men, not God creating man in ''his image.''
