Okay, so they're wrong about something they really, really care about. Investment tends to breed additional investment, that's not crazy or anything; people will rationalize away contradictions in the things they've believed for a long time.
But anyway, it's not about what they believe, it's about what you do. What do you want, here: do you want to believe something because it's true, or because someone close to you is really invested in it?
If your parents were as convinced of the idea that drinking battery acid is the path to perfect health, would you play along with that too, or would you accept the evidence that the opposite is true?
But so many other people, including like everyone I know, agrees with them. And Christianity seems to do nothing but good for them.
