What you're talking about is Old Testament. My parents always talk about how the Old Testament was just for the people of the time, and that God is different now because he doesn't have to follow the law.

Well, your parents might say that, but you know, Jesus disagrees: “Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them. For truly, I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not an iota, not a dot, will pass from the Law until all is accomplished. Therefore whoever relaxes one of the least of these commandments and teaches others to do the same will be called least in the kingdom of heaven, but whoever does them and teaches them will be called great in the kingdom of heaven. For I tell you, unless your righteousness exceeds that of the scribes and Pharisees, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven."

That's Jesus talking, in Matthew. Evidently, the law has not changed from the old testament, unless you're saying your parents know more about christianity than Jesus does?

But also, what you're saying there is that there was a time when it was moral to kill your family for your religion. Do you actually think that's true, and what changed between then and now to make killing your family not okay?
