What does it even mean? Whenever I've asked for clarification none is given, they just expect you to accept this with no explanation. I'm coming at this with a background in physics.
Time is very difficult to understand and as far as I'm aware no one really does, though plenty of work is being done to establish it. It could well be that time is just an illusion.
I just don't understand what they can possibly mean. Anyone clear it up, or am I thinking about it in too much depth and it's just pseudo-scientific garbage with no meaning at all?
As far as i have ever understood it, the claim is that since god is the creator of the universe, he existed before time (which is the justification for his existence "outside of time".) Essentially what i have taken this to mean is that in the most sophisticated sense, god is an nth dimensional being, where n=the highest number of currently known dimensions plus one, so that he is able to travel between and through any and all dimensions without penalty. I'm no physics buff so maybe you can help me out here; how exactly does 11dimensional M-theory work? Is this actually how other dimensions work? i am perfectly clueless about 11d motion.
Anyway, essentially what theologian had to account for was this: if god exists outside the currently known dimensions, how can he intervene in our lives? As they so often do, they took their signature course of action and just edited their claim; now they say that god existed outside of time to include the possibility that he could will himself into existence "inside of time".
Essentially what they mean is that God does not obey time, because he created it. Thus, you get "God is timeless"(because he does not adhere to any constraints of time) and "God is both inside and outside time"(meaning he can drift in and out of existence as he pleases.
Its all blind conjecture if you ask me,
