I might add that the 2002 remake would have been more like the book and less like SOTL if it hadn't used material from SOTL in the story. The reason why Bill kills Raspail in the SOTL movie is because in the book he kills Klaus, the FBI discover the moth in his throat and Raspail is the link, thus with the simplifying of the story, Klaus is removed and the moth moves from his throat to Raspail's.
The conclusion of SOTL is that Starling has in fact captured one serial killer, saving one life - but has also allowed the other to go free costing five lives. One the one hand she's saved Catherine, but on the other she's released Lecter who's wasted no time in killing officers Pembry and Boyle (who facilitate his escape through their own incompetence), and then the two paramedics in the ambulance (which Lecter calls in advance in order to ensure it arrives quickly) and then "Lloyd Wyman" in order to steal his identity, and finally ends with him plotting revenge against Chilton.

The WIN/Gallup End of Year Survey 2013 found the US was perceived to be the greatest threat to world peace by a huge margin, with 24% of respondents fearful of the US followed by: 8% for Pakistan, and 6% for China. This was followed by 5% each for: Afghanistan, Iran, Israel, North Korea. -LINK
"That's disgusting. There were clean athletes out there that have had their whole careers ruined by people like Lance Armstrong who just bended thoughts to fit their circumstances. He didn't look up cheating because he wanted to stop, he wanted to justify what he was doing and to keep that continuing on." - Nicole Cooke
