I'm not surprised. I seem to recall studies published by the WHO concerning acupuncture as a viable option for chronic pain or some such thing, but results are so freaking subjective when dealing with this treatment that it's very hard to tell what's true. My wife's neurologist back in Tucson, AZ had an acupuncturist on the staff, and her insurance covered this treatment.
It seems that Acupuncture as well as Chiropractic treatments are the dodgiest of Alternative Medicines, as it's damn near impossible to get accurate results that show their efficacy.
