A bigot? No I don't think so. Patronising? Certainly,as I would have been,and often am with far less cause.-- Young earth creationists ARE willfully ignorant.Stating a bald truth is not bigotry. ---bigotry is making a broad claim unsupported by evidence. It WOULD have been bigoted to add that ALL such people are also mentally unwell.
You have every right to express an opinion. Your friend has every right to be offended. He has no right to demand you (or anyone else) refrain from expressing your views for fear of giving offence.
A possible response: "It's not a crime to be ignorant. Nor is it a crime to be willfully ignorant (such as young earth creationists) but perhaps it should be"
