To get a more accurate test:
1) Only have one computer running that can connect to the internet.
2) On the one computer you do the test on, make sure nothing else is accessing the internet (so turn off MSN, Email clients, close all browser windows apart from the test one, etc).
3) Connect the test computer directly to the router / modem (via an ethernet cable). Wireless is slower (although not significantly) than wired.
