Finally, your argument about open source is a form a magical thinking. Just because it is open source doesn't mean it cannot send your data to a third-party. It simply means you can verify yourself. So I challenge you – read the Firefox source code. I know I can't, and I'm paid to do programming in C, Java, C++.
Open-source is no guarantee on the nonexistence of vulnerabilities, data leakage.
I think Firefox is just easy, and as some great additions that even a novice can use like a pro.
I used to use chrome, and opera before that, and FF is neither better nor worse than any of them in the grand scheme of things. I almost always use Tor for general browsing aside from when I'm on my iPad or when I visit those site (just for ease of passwords).
But you're 100% spot on regarding data leakage. Nothing's guaranteed on the internet.
