I'm 19 seconds in to the documentary (you got me curious) and I can already tell you half of why it's probably as scary as it is: the fuckin' scary music.
Though let's see how I feel in 40 minutes...
EDIT: There's apparently several documentaries on youtube about Slenderman do I don't know if I'm watching "the right one"

Edit 5: They're also cribbing lines from Batman Begins: From the second video at time stamp ~5:25: "Patients suffering delusional episodes often focus their paranoia on an external tormentor." Puh-lease. Word for word, exactly the same as what Doctor Crane says.
