I love cabbage. My Nan used to make boiled bacon, cabbage and mash and I used to have extra cabbage instead of the bacon. Yummy!
Sounds like colcannon - cabbage, mashed tatties, bacon and leeks or scallions. Grew up on that stuff. Still love it (but foods you had when you were a child are never as yummers once you're an adult).
