As for most Atheists being liberal I have a theory on that. Religious people depend on God to give them what they want and also a sense of security. When a religious person turns Atheist they no longer have that so they turn to the Government for it. Government is now their God. They pray to their new God in the voting booth with their hands held out ready to receive something.
I have actually seen this happen to someone.
Or it could just be that they see left leaning political theories as offering a greater sense of social justice vis right leaning ones?
I'm a pragmatist, so really I'd adopt any policy that could 'work' regardless of the spectrum it's from.
But I think it might be a pit presumptive to theorise that left leaning atheists have simply substituted a non-existent god for one in the guise of 'government' (which after all doesn't really describe anything). That would gloss over, for example, notions of altruism, and philanthropy, which like pragmatism take elements of social theory from both wings with the ultimate aim of creating what many might regard as a social equality; an axiological justice that has its roots in welfarism and social justice.
I think it's wrong to conclude that group behaviour = idiocy. I don't see any evidence of that unless the core ideological enterprise that informs the group is itself idiotic. This, obviously, is not always the case.
Oh I should have added; in the case of A+ - you're on the money.
