I see the point, I support the idea of getting rid of that part of the oath, but as a graduate of the US Naval Academy, they are blowing the 'ostracism' pressure WAY out of proportion. First off, when you swear your oath, you are doing it at two times. One, when you become a midshipman or cadet, and two, when you graduate. You are doing it in a crowd of 1200-1500. No one notices anything. Been there, done that. I just didn't say "So help me God." Then I threw my cover in the air, and partied like a rockstar.
I am a pretty confident guy, and maybe that's the reason no one questioned me.
Either way, I just think they undermine their point when they overdramatize stuff like that.

"There remain four irreducible objections to religious faith: that it wholly misrepresents the origins of man and the cosmos, that because of this original error it manages to combine the maximum servility with the maximum of solipsism, that it is both the result and the cause of dangerous sexual repression, and that it is ultimately grounded on wish-thinking." ~Christopher Hitchens, god is not Great
