I used to play games, when they came on a diskette... or more than one.
Then the internet came along... and $60 per game for any platform, which made me say, fuck it, not paying that, when I know that it will be less than half in less than half a year! So I downloaded.
Actually, I must have downloaded a game per year, at most, for the past 10 years.
I got that Tomb Raider one, with the young Lara... nice new gameplay for the series, but ends up being repetitive... and those dreadful Quick Time Events.... I could have lived without them. When I downloaded it, I thought it was a tad old, given that it ran just fine on my 6 year old, never top of the line, PC... a few days later I saw it in a store, complete with a life-size doll of Lara... sweet.
As for FPSs, I can't play SpunkGargleWeewee like CoD, but I did become quite proficient in Unreal Tournament (from wayyy back in 1999), GOTY edition.... online, in some german server where they used an automatic sniper rifle with near unlimited ammo, and that was the only gun... Stock full of custom maps and soundtracks... that was nice.
By today's standards, the graphics are probably rubbish, but virtually any PC could run it with a bunch of frames per second to keep up with the frantic pace o respawns and headshots. hmmm..... I wonder....

I'm still there!!!
And they're still up and running the server!!
Amazing!
What was that you guys were saying about nostalgia from older gamers?
