If I like how he takes his angles, frames, what shots he decides to take in count and what he discounts, the tone of colors, the expressions he wants to achieve, the after effects he decide to ad to his work, if he decides to not ad effects in the computer at all, the photo composition, if he likes symmetry in his shots, if I desire symmetry in my photos, how he capture textures, the quality of shades and mid tones that appear in his photos, the depth of field, the pattern of lines that he gets. And if I like all that I would hire him instead of the other guy. Besides in most cases new photographers have many advantages over the competition, since they are rookies are open to the suggestion and advice of their clients. However good luck try to convince a wedding photographer who has made many works what kind of photos are the best without hurting his ego.

It's a profession for both. There are people who make careers out of it.

Just because made a living by doing a particular line of job that doesn't guarantee you professionalism. Do they have a degree on massages? Considering they do a fair share of massage on camera one should think so. Do they practice their scenes with stunts? The: oh yeah mama, keep going, I'm gonna cum, follows a strict script? Do they practice their dialects and accents like normal actors? Are their lingeries custom made? The sexual positions in a scene need choreography?
