That picture with what seems to be a trapdoor spider gives a completely false impression of Australia.The tiny blue ringed octopus is far more dangerous. Not many people die from its sting,but most wish they had.

Generally our native fauna are far too stupid to be dangerous. Usually if you pet one the worst that will happen is that it will piss on you and give you fleas. Crocodiles are an exception,but the risks are still exaggerated,as can be seen from the photo below.
