Native Americans often used rifles themselves and they definitely knew what horses were, they were used in hunting, trading and war. Indeed, when one tribe raided another, it was the horses they would go for. The number of horses owned indicated a persons wealth. And they definitely didn't think that the white men were gods. They killed and scalped many of them.
