The Voice of God

To our resident Christians:

A lot of you say god talks to you. I used to hear it in church ALL the time, ALL THE DAMN TIME, and I still see it on facebook a lot. "God told me this or god told me to do that!" "God gave me this message!" "God told me to play this piece of music!" "God told me to give more money to the church!" "God told me that something amazing will happen in your life today!"

Many Christians say they hear God, I have my doubts about most because of what He was said to have spoken. You can watch people in church and see who's trying to either impress or are wanting to hear something from God because others do and they do not. Then there are those with their own agendas for the church or their lives, God will only reveal His agenda to those who seek it.
Then you have those who say God has spoken to them but it was through leading them, not actually speaking to them and if God leads them through scripture and it lines up with what is going on in the church I will believe they have heard from God. God can speak to people in various forms but if it doesn't stand the test of scripture I will always doubt it happened to them.

Well, I have a few questions for you Christians concerning this communication:

I'll try to answer these the best I can, however some of it will be my opinion through my relationship with God.

1) When god speaks to you, is it an audible voice? Could you capture it with a sound recorder?

I think it could be considered an audible voice because one seems to hear, however I think not, it's so clear it seems that way. To the second part, no, that goes against faith and free will, simple as that.

2) If not, is it a voice in your head?

Like I said above there probably is no audible voice, yet the message could be thought of as mind revealed, you really don't think someone's going to hear something through their foot, right. God works with the physical and spiritual body.

3) If it is indeed a voice in your head, are there any means by which you can be CERTAIN it's not YOU talking, and simply wishing really hard it's god? Can you verify that this voice in your head can not possible come from something else?

The best verification is in the scriptures, as a matter of fact if what one hears or understands is revealed doesn't fit scripture one should question what they thought was told to them.

4) Is the communication in English?

Seems to me that would depend on the language one spoke. If you are implying an unknown language it's very doubtful, who would translate.

5) Does god have an accent?

This question makes me believe you were never serious to begin with.

6) Or is the communication from god just some sort of warm, fuzzy feeling you get?

Anyone who believes in warm fuzzy feelings are in my opinion are looking for a god that suits there desires, this relationship with God is about God not necessarily about us, though we do benefit greatly from it. I'm not saying we have no part in the relationship, God wants us active in it but, the greater part of the relationship is desiring to do God's will for others.

Now, consider that god does not talk to atheists. Would you consider that this is because of a strong conformation bias? Would you say that this may be because in order to "hear from god" you must delude yourself into thinking he exists, then you suddenly start making up a voice in your head and saying it's god?

Here again this shows me you're not serious in your asking, what a shame, then you wonder why Christians will not open up to you, (you represents most of the atheist here, but not all.)

Bonus points:

7) What about Satan? Have you ever heard the devil or any demons talk to you?

Please send me a big wad of cash after I answer this question, that's all that seems required to receive the bonus, I can't spend points on woodworking tools.
This question is the one you and all non-believers need to worry about, because Satan and his demons are allowed to work in this way.

Now to how I've recognized God speaking to me, once it was a one word message that was so clear it seemed as if it were spoken, I knew it wasn't audible, but a revelation to a question I had about scripture that I asked about in prayer for quite a long time. The answer didn't come, so I believed God wasn't going to answer this question. Months later it came, long after I had even though about the question, like I said I had given up on the answer, God has His own time and the answer fit into my life at an appropriate time.

Later in life I had another question for God about a certain story in scripture, it actually was about a particular part of the story, I knew it was something I could not answer but, it was something that had been on my mind for a long time. Again I had moved on to other things in the church and hoped one day to receive an answer. Then one day driving home it came, it was an answer that should have taken at least a few minutes to receive, but it was instant, I had an understanding of a question as if it was something I had known for years, but that was impossible, I could have never imagined this answer because it wasn't something I had ever considered.

There have been other case not many but some I know for a fact came to me from God, doubt all you desire, just know I never came here to lie or make up stories and do not do so.
