I think racial profiling is wrong, as well. But Arizona is trying to buckle down on illegal smuggling, which is totally understandable. I'm guessing my conclusion is made mostly out of ignorance. But I don't see what the problem is. Why come here illegally? Why worry about the bill if you're not illegal? Why give illegal immigrants a free pass from the law when normal American citizens are still held by it? It seems to me that most of the arguments against the bill comes from hypocrisy. D:
Please correct me if I'm wrong and elaborate so I may further understand my ignorance.
Let's try it this way, Kawaii. There are plenty of actual American citizens, born here or naturalized, who still speak Spanish, live in the barrio, or play loud latin music from their car radios. There is nothing in this "law" to stop some bully cop ( with apologies to Dotard who thinks cops are god-like apparently) from hassling them.
From Sec 8 (B) of the law.
Quote:B. FOR ANY LAWFUL CONTACT MADE BY A LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICIAL OR AGENCY
21 OF THIS STATE OR A COUNTY, CITY, TOWN OR OTHER POLITICAL SUBDIVISION OF THIS
22 STATE WHERE REASONABLE SUSPICION EXISTS THAT THE PERSON IS AN ALIEN WHO IS
23 UNLAWFULLY PRESENT IN THE UNITED STATES,
This is the basis of our nazi sheriff's "crime suppression sweeps" where he deploys his deputies to minority areas, spots someone with a broken tail light or failing to signal a turn ( no one in Arizona uses turn signals...must be a religious thing!) and then arrests them for being illegal...or holds them until they can prove that they are citizens or legal immigrants. "We're not racial profiling" shrieks Gauleiter Joe Arpaio.... "we just look closer at brown people" The man is totally full of shit.
You can bet your ass that white Canadians ( and there are a shitload down here....the weather is a lot better than Edmonton) aren't going to lose a moment's sleep over this law. Anyone who cannot see its intent is either blind or lying to themselves or...most likely....approves of harassing Mexicans.
Bill Maher discussed the issue last night on Real Time. The relevant section begins at the 2:25 mark
