A corporation is a legal instrument used by persons. A marriage is a legal instrument used by persons. Just because a person or persons utilize a legal instrument doesn't mean they automatcally forfiet their rights. For example, suppose a married couple bought a house. The house is community property of the marriage. The name on the title of the house might even read something like: John Doe and Jane Doe, a married couple. Would it be a violation of an individual's free speech if the government forbid property held in a community of individuals to be an avenue for political speech? Would it be a violation of free speech for the government to forbid posting a sign that reads, "vote for Obama" in the yards owned by married couples?
I wouldn't say that corporations are being given the same rights as people by SCOTUS. I would say that SCOTUS is deciding that people do not forfiet certain rights just because they ultilize a certain kind of legal instruments.....such as articles of incorporation.
