It is trivially easy for an illegal immigrant to collect welfare in the form of food stamps in this country and that is by design. If there is no robust enforcement of eligibilty requirements they might as well not exist.
Let everyone in who wants to work. Just don't give them an incentive to come here to be on the dole. The day is coming when we will be able to let everyone in...even if they want to sit around and smoke pot all day...but that day isn't here yet.
If I understand the wording right, and I do, illegal immigrants can get food stamps for their legal children without having to provide their own immigrant status. It doesn't apply to the illegal immigrants themselves. You can't apply for food stamps without a social security number anyway. I think you just misunderstood the wording, which is an honest mistake.
