Well, bayleaves are not my seasoning of choice. However, they are really the only thing when one is making a chowder. You just have to remember to remove them from the base.

They taste terrible by then, and get caught in your teeth. But they DO flavour the brew (at a loss for the general term for (Chowder/ Stew/ Soup/ Pasta dish/ etc) beautifully.
