Everyone else appears to have been of the opinion that it was a bit of both. As this appears to be the case for the vast majority of hunters we see today it is not really a surprising find. Lions, Hyenas and Leopards will all scavenge when the opportunity presents itself. On the African plains only the Cheetah limits itself to hunting alone.
And his involvement led to the godawful Jurassic Park III by presuming that the T. Rex was just a big, slow scavenger and putting the ridiculous Spinosaurus as the new big bad for marketing. If there's a hell in paleontology, Jack Horner will probably go there.
Luke: You don't believe in the Force, do you?
Han Solo: Kid, I've flown from one side of this galaxy to the other, and I've seen a lot of strange stuff, but I've never seen *anything* to make me believe that there's one all-powerful Force controlling everything. 'Cause no mystical energy field controls *my* destiny. It's all a lot of simple tricks and nonsense.
