DeistPaladin, something I fail to understand - I usually assume believers have some kind of wishful thinking mechanism, they believe because they want it to be true, because it makes them feel good, happier, and sometimes smarter (I've noticed this is the case for some deists, the activity of making intellectual or philosophical statements about the universe and what caused it in the first place), but I fail to see any compelling reasons for you to believe. If you said you believed in an afterlife, that would be an enough reason for me to assume wishful thinking coming from your mind, since the thought gives comfort to many people, it gives them hope for a better outcome after death... You don't seem to hold beliefs regarding an existence after our death, post mortem, of any kind, nor do you seem to believe in ghosts, spirits, haunted houses, souls... So why believe in the first place? I've met many deists on the internet that believe in an afterlife and the human soul/spirituality, I can understand the benefits of keeping beliefs that grant a person happiness while it frees them from the shackles of religious dogma, very few deists I've argued with lack belief in an afterlife, so this brings back my question, why do you believe at all? Just curious, I've met one deist who thought like you, he believed in a god that was very similar to Einstein's 'god' but he repulsed the idea of an afterlife or life outside the brain.
Don't see this as a personal attack, just sheer curiosity from a non believer.

Whoever fights monsters should see to it that in the process he does not become a monster. And if you gaze long enough into an abyss, the abyss will gaze back into you
