Pantheism is the belief that God IS the universe, as opposed to some unknown mind behind it.
But I think you've got the gist.
And yes, it's a fallacious appeal to wonder. That's why I cop to it being instinctive and not a matter of reason.
And since the practical application is the same, I don't even correct anyone who calls me an atheist anymore. Anyone who would use the term as a pejorative isn't going to comprehend the distinction anyway.
