I bought BF2 for the PS3, huge disappointment. I thought maybe it was because it was a console adaptation, so picked up the same on PC during a steam sale. Nope. What a shitty game. (Perhaps multiplayer was better, I couldn't get into it - it's tough for a noob to catch up when everyone's been playing it for months or more. Multiplayer FPS has lost it's luster for me.).
That was the last game of the Battlefield franchise that I played. I know the COD franchise catches a lot of flak, perhaps rightly so, but I still enjoy the older games in that franchise from time to time. Haven't played anything later than COD2.
It wasn't until a few years back that I could ever afford a PC that could handle an FPS well enough to actually be worth playing. On console I loved CoD4, CoD WaW and even MW2 despite the awful game breaking glitches. After that although I the later games with friends it was only because of the people I knew that I bothered to play. I liked BF:BC2 too, it was the first battlefield game that really seemed to hit it off on console. I agree with you on FPS games though. Most are sub par, even though I'm playing a lot of BF4 its not a great game at all.
Other than that ARMA 3 has a lot of draw for me but its not a game like BF or CoD where you can go online and play for 30 mins. With ARMA you have to set out an entire afternoon and expect anywhere up to 30 mins between gunfights that can be over in either seconds or a couple minutes.
