Night and day are not around before the sun. Rather in the restoration the sun and moon can't be seen yet because of the haze.
Have you actually read the passage? It explicitly says that night and day were created on the first day, and the sun and stars were created on the fourth day. No mention of any haze, and it does not say the sun appeared from behind a cloud - just "let there be lights in the sky".
