I have to respectfully disagree with this point. While true in a vast majority of cases, mine included (but at least I'm doing something about mine*), there are medical conditions that cause severe, even morbid obesity that is very much beyond the control of the individual. Hypothyroidism and Cushing Syndrome come to mind.
*No, I'm not one of those people who hasn't seen his dick (except in the mirror) in over 20 years, but at 220 I am just over the line of obese. My Ideal body weight is right around 175. 20% over is 210. Cutting back on sugar (unexpected but pleasant side effect of vaping as a smoking cessation method ) and getting off my ass and into the mountains for some serious calorie burning hikes has already cut 10 pounds off. This time next month I plan to be under the obesity line! The ultimate goal is 170 then maintain 165-170.
