Notebook vs. Binder

I'm debating over what should be used by default (you know how you choose your 'default' browser. mine is Google Chrome).

Good point on how you can stack binders vertically easily. I just realized that the typical (hard cover not flimsy) binder can easily stand vertically on its own without tipping over and take up less surface area on a table than a notebook laying flat on a table.

First of all, apologies for accusing you of anti-binderism. As a fervent believer in binders, its obviously a sensitive subject for me. Hope you understand.

Using binders requires a bit more organization than notebooks. In particular, you need to use reinforcers and/or plastic pockets. Otherwise the paper will break, and stuff will fall out of your binder.

However, as long as you do that, binders are vastly superior to notebooks, for all of the reasons that we've said. To sum things up, binders are a much more flexible way of storing information.

A third option, which I've adopted myself, is to invest in a filing cabinet. You may not have enough stuff now to merit a filing cabinet, but believe me- in time you will. The binder -> filing cabinet transition is an easy one. The sections in your binders simply become sections in your filing cabinet. By contrast, a notebook -> filing cabinet transition would be messy, to say the least, since you'd have to break up all your notebooks.

Which is yet another reason to go for binders.
