On the topic, we Christians tend to dig a foxhole where we initially hook up to a group.
That is how the denominations started (NOT talking about Catholicism).
Each group from the Reformation onward thought they had it all.
Side issues become mountains.
Here is another facet of us- many of us came to where we are, via being messed- up to begin with.
If that baggage isn't dealt with (by us) over time (and dealing with it IS something we are nudged to do by God- still our choice), it comes out.
We and everyone else, cover up with a platitude at times.
