Funniest thing I have noticed is that you usually get to see how "to do it right...by watching someone do it horribly wrong"
So you have a history of a predilection to Alcohol in the family.... that doesn't mean YOU are doomed to travel that dame path (witness ya mum and dad)
As for addictions??
You can't BE on this rock unless you are addicted to something!! Currently mine are cigarettes, Motorcycles (riding of course), Eating good healthy food and Coffee.
I guess I am very lame eh??
Surface to say that your mum is generalising and possibly from a scientific stand point does not have all the facts (then again science doesn't either) but the human condition is very convoluted and Nature and nurture are intertwined....
